We checked off in class for assignment completion in Inspiration 9
Review- where was our destination on Friday?
Finish first map from Friday - work with your teammates and use the geography clues to locate the ancient Maya sites in current day counties
--------------------------------------------------------------
Introduce the EL and EQ for the unit.
Essential Understanding: Our knowledge of how Maya civilization was organized and functioned and its impact on people’s lives is limited to what we can interpret from artifacts and other archeological evidence and from what few Maya codices remain.
Essential Question: How did the Maya live and how do we know?
Today's objective: We will map the political and geographic features of the Mayan civilization. Political features are the boundaries of current day countries and the area of the Mayan civilization. Geographic features are the components of the earth like elevation and climate.
geography - the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere and how it affects humans and how humans affect it.
In order to begin to understand how the Maya lived, we need to know where they lived: what the landscape and climate was like around them. The geography of where humans live affects HOW they live.
1. Our first map identifies political boundaries. Follow the directions on the Maya Map below that you can print out.
