Time Travel - Is It Real?
Time Travelers in Movies
Thurs, August 29 & Fri, Aug 30
Students watched a five minute clip of Stephen Hawking's theory of Time Travel.
Students first predict if time travel is real. After the video, they respond if it is real or not.
Students view movie clips of Time Travel characters and their devices as depicted in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Dr Who, HG Wells Time Machine, and Back to the Future. Students wrote a brief opinion for which Time Machine they liked the best and why and shared their knowledge of any other time devices in movies, books or tv shows. The lesson is to prep them for creating their own Time Traveler character and device which they will use to "travel back in time."
The following questions were assigned using a paper handout. For absent students, they either need to get the handout from me or answer the same questions as seen below on a sheet of paper.
Time Travel - Is It REAL? Name______________________Per___
BEFORE you watch the first video clip of Stephen Hawking, answer the following: 1. Do you think Time Travel is real or possible? Why or why not?
2. After viewing the video clip by Stephen Hawking, answer the question again. Do you think time travel is possible? Why or why not?
3. We watched clips from several movies. Which time travel device did you like the best? Explain why. Be specific. Simply saying, “it’s cool” is not enough. You need to give details for why.
4. What other time machines do you know of from movies, tv shows or books? Write in answers from discussion.
5. Mystery Question. Look at and answer ONLY AFTER you watch the videos. Scroll down for the question found beneath the video clips.
