Pre-Assessment: What do we know and not know?
In-class Steps to Pre-Assessment
1. Students read through the pre- assessment silently with pencils down. Students were encouraged to ask clarifying questions.
2. Students complete assessment. Students should mark any pure guesses with a question mark. Correct together - correct own papers. Be honest. Show yourself and me what you have and haven’t learned. This will not be graded. Graded assessment on Thursday. Students will get their papers back on Tuesday to aid them in their study for Thursday's assessment.
Absent Students:
To access the Pre Assessment, you can download below, print and complete. Be honest in your answers. This is about knowing what you know and don't know, so you know what to study.

Introduction to History assessment on Monday, Sept. 30. Assessment date changed from Thurs. Sept 26 to Mon. Sept 30.
Thursday: Taking notes on the Study Guide
Students will have a study guide and papers they worked on previously to help them study for the assessment. They will have to take home over the long weekend.
Absent students: Study guide questions listed below (with the notes in bold italics we took in class) or you can download and print out the guide. See download below the list of questions.
What is History? Assessment Study Guide
Answers given in italics for those who were absent on the day we filled this in together.
1. What is the difference between the past and history?
Study your definitions. (2 extra credit points if you know the most expanded definition that we wrote down in our Inspiration activity - see Missions Logbook for Tuesday, Sept 24 for a screenshot of the definition.
From your notes, write down the definitions for each word.
2. How do we know what happened in the past? Think about your answer to question number 1.
We know what happened in the past because humans have recorded some of it.
---------------------------------------------------------------
For the following two questions, please study - The Man with the Thirty Second Memory (think about memory and what it is good for) See Mission Logbook for Tues & Wed, Sept 10 & 11 and your answer sheet TT History Basic Training Day 1 in your SS folder on your computer. Hint: Please do not just answer simply, “Because memories and the past are important, or good to know or interesting” Instead, think about what history has to do with the future.
3. What is the purpose (reason) for knowing and understanding history?
History helps us make well-informed decisions for the future.
4. Explain how the Man with the Thirty Second Memory helps to show us this.
Our memory is our personal recorded past. The man with the thirty second memory does is not able to recall his past to help him make well informed decisions for the future.

5. What is the difference between perception and perspective? Study your definitions
From your notes, write down the definitions for each word.
For the following three questions, please study how our perceptions and perspectives affect how humans record the past. See the Missions Logbook for Monday, Sept 16 about perception for the Basketball/Bear awareness test and the Pickpocket Man videos along with the answer sheet.
Also see the Missions Logbook for Wed & Thurs, Sept 18 & 19 about perspective for the Seven Blind Mice video along with your answer sheet that went with the activity.
6. Explain what is wrong with history. (What are its faults?)
History is imperfect and incomplete because our perceptions and perspectives are imperfect and incomplete.
7. Explain how the Basketball Awareness Test and the Pickpocket Man help to show us this about perception.
Perception is imperfect and incomplete because we cannot take in new information when we are paying attention to another task or memory even when it is happening right in front of our face.
8. Explain how the Seven Blind Mice video helps to show us this about perspective.
Perspective is imperfect and incomplete because it can cause us to see only a part of the whole and we interpret what we are seeing based on our own past experiences and attitudes.
Absent students: Study guide questions listed below (with the notes in bold italics we took in class) or you can download and print out the guide. See download below the list of questions.
